While out running errands today, I stopped in a favorite shop to browse for Christmas gifts. There are two things about this store that make it one of my favorites: 1. It sells really odd stuff and 2. They have an amazing clearance aisle where you can pick up such stuff for mere pennies.
So, here’s the deal: Today, I discovered a true treasure – a decorative sign that reads, “Condemned” – and I need help deciding whether or not I should go back tomorrow and buy it! I can’t decide.
The Pro’s
- It has been marked down (twice!) to a mere 50 cents!
- It speaks to me.
The Con’s:
- It’s sorta ugly.
- I could make one myself in under 30 minutes.
So, what do you think?
c’mon – it would cost more than fifty cents to buy the materials, and surely your time is worth more than $1 per hour (30 minutes to make a fifty cent item). And, for the record, I believe a “condemned” sign should be a bit ugly (not that I think that one is).

Here’s a vote for “don’t buy it”. Why? Who needs more clutter in their house?
I would personally prefer a lovely filet crochet sign of the same nature. Gives that quaint, at-home feeling. :-)
I’m with Cherish. Harsh words are more ironic when presented in traditional home arts. Like the “Bite Me” and flowers I cross stitched for someone. Make one yourself…..or buy it and repaint it. That one is too sparkly and reminds me of the fonts that veterinarians use.
I’m torn between what Meanie said and what Suchlovelyfreckles said…but I ended up voting ‘yes’ anyway. December is crazy enough without having to add another chore (even a fun, crafty one), and as long as you’re not cluttering too much (or maybe you like clutter…who are we to judge?), what’s the harm in getting one little thing that totally speaks to you?
Me, OTOH, if I bring one more thing into the house, you’ll see me in the paper the next day as the crazy lady whose closet contents buried and killed her.

Boo-hoo :(
I stopped in to buy it and…[sniff]… it was gone! Daughter helped me search high and low, but, alas, it was gone, apparently snatched up by another condemned soul. Or, maybe it was grabbed by a believer who wanted the perfect gift for their unsaved family member. Rats. I should have hid it under some towels in the bath section. :/
