Of course, if Republicans do get the keys in November, maybe they'll just drive the car - not back into the ditch - but off the damn cliff to be done with it once and for all. (Maybe becoming a theocratic state is like taking off a band-aid?)

Thanks for the insights, Michelle. I guess I'll add fundamentalist EO (alongside Mormonism) to my list of things I know next to nothing about. :(

At least Frank Schaeffer's emotional outbursts against atheists make more sense now. I've heard him call atheists (or at least the "new" ones) fundamentalists - but I haven't heard him talk about secularism in the same way as fundamentalist Christians do. Say it ain't so, Franky! You're yet another True Believer™ who wants to "take the land back"? :(

A little off-topic but,... Last week, I heard a candidate respond to the take-the-land-back slogan (being used by her opponent): "Well, I want to take the land forward." Touché. I wish more candidates would start talking that way. It might even make a cool bumpersticker.

Wow...a zombie thread! And I don't have anything really to say about the current comments but I'm surprised I didn't see this when it originally posted or I would've said "don't nobody call Franky Schaeffer anything that remotely resembles "moderate"!"

Remember, I was a convert to Eastern Orthodoxy...in part because of the EO fundamentalism of Mr. Schaeffer! He left Protestantism and took his show on the road with the Greeks. When priests would say the word "convert" like it was a dirty word they would often think of Franky. He rallied people like myself that were looking for the "True Church". He encouraged things like head coverings and submissive women and blind faith in the priesthood. Strangely enough, it was his father that in part converted me to Christianity, too!

Maybe he's mellowed a bit. *shrugs*
