While looking over vintage surgical tools this evening, I’m reminded that while sometimes science replaces religion, there are plenty of occasions when science accommodates religion.

You know what they say about curiosity. Not only did curiosity kill the cat; consider Eve – and the woman in childbirth, the man toiling in the field, the snake crawling on its belly. It’s a regrettable thing – especially when, in my case, the whole thing gets you wondering about Abraham - and what *circumcising oneself* (at age 99) might look like. I’ll bet it was that snakey satan who prompted me to take it a step further and google images using the text string, ”Abraham circumcises himself.”

Gotta keep the comic theology straight! In the Robin Williams illustrated book of life, I learn that the snakey Satan (wearing a sweater) is the Before Picture, and the Temptation is to stay that way. But the god of Abraham apparently prefers snails wearing helmets . . .
