So, has anybody ever seen Paula Deen’s cooking show, Paula’s Home Cooking, on Food Network? Yeah, up until today, all I’ve known about Paula Deen is that she supposedly cooks everything in a “sticka butta.” If only I had left well enough alone. Quite honestly, after watching Paula make “Deep Fried Mac & Cheese” today, the Girl and I may never touch food again. Ever.

It was that bad.
But, you probably don’t believe me and want to see the recipe for yourself :D
First, make up some mac & cheese and chill it overnight.
Then, after it has had time to set up (congeal),
- cut it up into globs
- wrap a piece of uncooked bacon around each piece
- dredge each in white flour
- coat with raw egg slime
- dredge again, this time in bread crumbs
- then deep-fat fry in peanut oil
This is what yours will look like before you take a big, nasty bite into one.

To see what one looks like after your big, nasty bite, here’s the video.

I have a love/not love relationship with Paula Deen. I was first introduced to her through her first two cookbooks which came into my collection as part of the deal with the house. It’s a long story, but from my first look into either of them I understood that I wouldn’t be cooking much of her food.
If nothing else I love the woman’s story, and I love that she was able to find something that worked out so well for her. I love her accent because it reminds me of Georgia, and I still love the place even if I don’t plan on living there again any time soon.
And honestly, bacon wrapped fried mac and cheese sounds beyond delightful. I’d use sriracha in the mac and cheese and maybe some finely diced jalapenos, and we get this locally produced bacon at work that is really thick cut and smokey as all hell that would be so awesome for this.
And finally, egg slime? Oh, honey. What do you eat?
Okay, I confess that the egg “slime” description was something I threw in hastily (after looking at the video a second time. Seriously, toward the end, she’s got this whole gooey, gummy, slimey thing going on…)
But, here’s the deal. I just looked up “sriracha” and I recognize it as the stuff that my husband squirts all over my cooking (especially when I make meatloaf, for some reason). In other words, what do I know? I’m a lousy cook – and, you do it professionally. So,… I’ll defer to your experience on this (as long as I don’t have to eat that glop) ;)
I’d rather eat too many chocolate bunnies, but thanks though!!
Hope you and yours have a wonderful, heart attack free weekend!!
Hugs!!
Oooh, I wonder what deep-fried chocolate bunnies taste like. :P
