I just noticed that Michelle (Turgid Stultiloqoy) tagged me for the Honest Scrap meme. The rules are:
- List 10 honest things about yourself – and make it interesting, even if you have to dig deep!
- Pass the award on to 7 bloggers that you feel embody the spirit of the Honest Scrap.
My honest list:
1. I honestly don’t think that are 10 things about me that are interesting enough to write about. (One down, nine to go.)
2. Like Michelle (with respect to one of her 10 honest things), I hate making spelling and grammatical errors when blogging. In fact, there are times when I’ll tweak my posts days - even weeks – later, if I notice mistakes that I’ve made.
3. I recently gave up on the evening drawing classes that I began last year. I started out okay but, at some point, I started getting progressively worse. ( What’s up with that?) It was like being 15 again, in sixth-period Geometry, waiting for the bell to ring. My favorite part of the class became leaving at the end of the night!
4. My daughter used to ride horses, but doesn’t anymore. Once, during a lesson, her horse took off at a full gallop. With her on his back, he circled the arena at full speed for what seemed like forever. She tried to control him, but couldn’t. We all stood very still, afraid to make movements that might cause him to spook and throw her. It was terrifying, but he finally tired and stopped. For the next several months, she continued to ride, but never regained confidence. My Honest Scrap? I’m glad. She seems to have lost all interest in riding.
5. A couple years ago, my husband and I assumed financial/legal responsibility for a family member’s project. We were naive and got burned. We’ve lost much of our savings as a result.
6.
7. A year ago, I had Mohs surgery for skin cancer. Even though I was told that I had the “good kind of cancer” (that rarely spreads), the surgery left a small scar on the bridge of my nose that bothers me. I’ve had people say they “don’t even notice it,” but I think they’re just being nice. Plus, I don’t get to play in the sun anymore.
Maybe I should rename this meme Honest Crap, in my case. Damn, this is depressing! Tell me you’re not still reading this!!
8. I’m still conflicted about my daughter going to school next year, which she’d still like to do. She wanted to go this year, but we agreed on another year of homeschooling in order to get our program more in line with what they do (yawn) at what would be her school – and do some traveling and other fun stuff.
9. I have 8 cousins, but have never known any of them, until just recently, when I met two. One is a very sweet young girl my daughter’s age (my uncle married late) who lives in Hawaii and the other is a great young woman who works as a dolphin trainer at Sea World (here is a short video of her).
10. I have zero interest in all things woo. I am 100% woo-less, woo-free – and don’t want to waste one more minute of my life engaged in superstition of any kind.
Now, consider yourself tagged for the Honest Scrap meme if…
- you’re reading this
- you’d like to be tagged :)
Here’s the very honest-to-goodness graphic to post with your list:

honestly, your blog is one of my favorite places to stop by online. your list was interesting, but even better because you didn’t think it would be. was it hard to write?
I love honesty and I think you are very interesting. I was sad after doing this meme. It made me depressed.
I’m doing better now.
Hugs!!
Hi Judy,
What a nice compliment :) Thank you. I’ve been enjoying your comments, too :)
Actually, it was a little hard to write – especially because, after doing a few of these, I’m running out of new things to say! :)
okay, maybe I’m being dense, but what’s woo?
Hi Tracey,
Thank you :)
Yes, yours was a little sad, too :(
Normally, I’d invite your wild birds over to my house, but I’m on my last bag of seed, too :?
I know what you mean about changing financial means (see my # 5). What we didn’t lose in that mess, we lost recently in the stock market — but, that’s what a sense of humor is for, right?? :)
Hi Meg,
I would define “woo” (short for “woo woo”) as superstitious thinking. I suppose everybody’s list of woo beliefs would differ, but I tend to agree with Greta Christina’s thoughts in What’s the Harm in a Little Woo?
Here’s another fun site that sheds light on woo.
What I just learned: According to one set of definitions from SkepticWiki, Woo Woo is also the name of a cocktail; 1 oz. Peach Schnapps, 1 oz. Vodka, Splash of Cranberry Juice! I never knew.
Interesting list.
I think I’ll try a Woo Woo next time I’m at a bar but I’ll pass on all the rest. :)
I would so pick this up, especially because I just posted 16 random honest things about me on Facebook. But I’m so friggin’ tired tonight, that I’m even too lazy to cut and paste from Facebook to my blog.
So I’ll just sit and read for a while, until my eyes stop working. Then I’ll go to bed.
