My first indication that I should’ve put more thought into choosing a blog name came early when I began to hear people refer to me as “Boremetotears” — as if it was my name. ”Boremetotears this.” “Boremetotears that.” I’ve been known to wisecrack, “I shoulda called my blog, ‘Smokin’ Hot Mama’ or ’Smartest Person You’ll Ever Meet’.” Seriously. If only I had thought ahead.
Some (for the sake of brevity?) have instead referred to me simply as ”BMTT.” Between us, I sorta like this name because, for some reason, it always makes me think about BLT’s, which happen to be my favorite sandwich.
Now I’ve discovered another drawback: If I’m going to stubbornly stick to design elements that are compatible with my blog’s title, I will forever be stuck with drab, dreary, cheerless graphics. No vibrant hues, no dynamic artwork; just the same ol’ gloomy, glum colors – and pictures of drippy faucets, drying paint, sobbing women, old men playing checkers in the park…
There must be a way to give ”boring” a make-over, to recast it in a postive way. Following a short trek through cyberspace in search of ideas, I am not hopeful, however. So far, the only unusual take on the word is this:
Boredom is like a pitiless zooming in on the epidermis of time. Every instant is dilated and magnified like the pores of the face.
Jean Baudrillard

The adolescent in me was, like, totally grossed out at the mention of magnified pores (ewww); after a moment of reflection, however, I realized that the quote actually fits well with my (ahem) stated inspiration for blogging, which was the Seinfeld episode during which Elaine complains of wasting her life “pouring over the excrutiating minutia of every single daily event.” Magnified minutia… Pitiless zooming…
Still, it’s not really recasting boredom in an uplifting way… is it?
A start, maybe.
