Last June, I did an “eight random things” meme; now Ute has tagged me for another :O This time, I have to come up with seven “random / unusual facts about me.” That’s almost, um, 15 random / unusual facts total I’ve had to think up about myself – all in the span of a year.
Random fact 1. Math isn’t my thing.
Random fact 2. I recently took up the clarinet, which I played in school many years ago. Initially, I thought it would help prod along my daughter, who had fallen into a motivational slump as a clarinet student herself. It seems to have helped her a lot – and I’m actually enjoying it more than expected. Her teacher gives her an orchestral accompaniment (on CD) to each assigned piece of music, which makes practicing a lot more fun than it ever was back in the olden days.
Random fact 3. Our dog wails whenever we practice, so we put him in the garage to spare him the apparent agony. (Okay, technically, this one was about my dog – and not me – but I’m running out of ideas and I’m only at number 3.)
Random fact 4: A million years ago, I taught a jazzercise class. At the time of hiring, I didn’t realize that my job assignment required hard-selling gym memberships using the most horrible, manipulative sales scripts which we were all forced to memorize. I lasted a week. If I hadn’t quit, I probably would’ve been fired. One prospective member actually interrupted me in the middle of my spiel to ask, “They’re making you do this, aren’t they?” I guess I wasn’t very convincing ;)
Random fact 5: Everybody says I make the best guacamole. Not sure why, as I don’t have a recipe, and it’s different each time. (Bonus random fact: I had chips and guacamole for dinner tonight.)
Random fact 6: I used to be a camel. I could walk, run, bike all day in the hot sun – and without clutching one of those sissy water bottles – and never wilt. Strangely, I am now very sensitive to the heat and, if I get too much sun, it takes me several days to recover fully.
Last random fact 7: We used to have an aviary full of birds in the backyard. One day they got out (the door had not been closed securely) and flew away. Part of me was relieved as I had been feeling bad about keeping them caged. The only other pet that we have (other than our dog and horse) is a bearded dragon that we keep in a large terrarium. When he passes away (he’s nearing his life expectancy) I don’t want another caged pet.
I think I’ll tag Michelle ;)

hoo boy. you asked for it. :P
What kind of birds were they?
And the Jazzercise experience sounds like a very particular sort of hell. Fodder for a short story or short film, really.
LOL, I love the jazzercise one… but the camel? Interesting… :) I’d like to see a pic of you now.
Thanks for playing.
What kind of birds were they?
They were parakeets and there were 8 of them. Actually, I was a little concerned that they would reproduce, flourish, and create a little Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill here in the suburbs – prompting the Audubon Society to hunt me down for disrupting the native ecological balance, of course.
Yeah, the jazzercise years LOL. I should have kept my legwarmers as a souvenir.
And, I guess my bit about the camel was a little odd. Especially since most camels can’t ride bikes. What was I thinking?
A picture of me? (So, you didn’t see the photos that I posted here?) Actually, since I’m usually the one with the camera, there aren’t many of me around. I had one up on my blog for a time, but my husband worries that I’m too controversial to be posting identifying information about myself. I’ve been pretty lucky so far… knock on wood.
